THE 32-year-old Hileni Johannes, a mother who was arrested recently for allegedly throwing her baby on the roof of a building, was remanded in police custody when she appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Presiding Magistrate Alice Gawanas postponed the case to 28 September for further investigations and to allow the accused to obtain a Legal Aid lawyer.
Johannes is charged with attempted murder and of exposing an infant to danger, read with the Combating of Domestic Violence Act.
Prosecutor Martha Hasheela argued that the alleged offense is serious and the granting of bail would be contrary to public interest and the administration of justice.
“Investigations are still at an early stage. The State fears that the accused might interfere with the ongoing police investigations,” she Hasheela.
Johannes is accused of throwing her newborn baby boy on the roof of the house last week Friday in Onayena area of Oniipa town.
The baby was admitted in the Onandjokwe district hospital in a serious condition.
