ANOTHER case of drowning was reported in the Omusati Region after Atanasius Indileni Muukwillongo a five-year-old boy drowned in a water canal.
The drowning incident occurred around 16h00 on Sunday at Uundombo village in the Elim constituency.
This makes it the third case of drowning reported in the region within the period of ten-days.
According to crime coordinator deputy commissioner Moses Simaho, the deceased allegedly went to fetch water with other children (housemates) then fell into the water canal.
“The matter was reported by the child who was with the deceased, to people at the Ehafo location,” he said.
Simaho added that the public then came to remove the body from the water canal and then placed it where the police officers found it.
Last week, an inquest was opened after 30-year-old Wilbard Iita Elago Mweshininga reportedly drowned at Omutsewokanala location in the Okashaningwa village of the Ruacana Constituency. According to Crime Coordinator Deputy Commissioner Simaho, Mweshininga was allegedly last seen on Tuesday evening at Omutsewokanala location.
His lifeless body was discovered floating in the water canal by a community member on Wednesday at around 07:30, a few meters from the location.
Simaho stated that the body was transported to the Okahao Police Mortuary for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
This comes days after the lifeless body of four-year-old Amon Pombili Kasper was also retrieved from a NamWater canal at Oshipanda village in Omusati’s Oshikuku constituency on Sunday.
