Northern areas face water interruption

NAMIBIA’s northern parts have once again been hit by water interruption due to the current work being done at the canal.

Namibia’s water supply authority NamWater on Tuesday said that the regions of Oshana, Oshikoto, Omusati, and Ohangwena will be hit by the shortage of water.

According to NamWater Area Manager for Operations Abraham Ashipala, the current rehabilitation works on the canal could result in a reduced supply of water to NamWater treatment plants and distribution system.

Ashipala said to ensure the availability of water to critical stakeholders they expected to start with water rationing on 3 June until 18 June.

“NamWater is monitoring the situation closely and will advise again on further measures,” he said.

He said the interruption is to build the reserve capacity of the components and sustain the limited available water being produced.

Ashipala stated that should there be critical needs for essential services centres such as hospitals and clinics people are encouraged to call the NamWater head offices in the specific regions for possible water delivery arrangements through water tankers to assist in critical institutions.
