FIVE-YEAR-OLD Justina Mekondjo died after a car hit her while she was crossing the road near the Oshifukwa location on Tuesday.
The 60-year-old driver, Konrad Ashipala, was arrested and then released on N$4 000 bail due to health reasons.
The accident happened on the B1 road between Omuthiya and Ondangwa around 15:00.
“It is alleged that the accused was driving alone from the Omuthiya side towards Ondangwa when he bumped a pedestrian who was trying to cross the road and died at the accident scene,” Oshikoto police commander Commissioner Armas Shivute said.
Shivute said the deceased was from the Omalindi Village and her next of kin have been informed.
A case of culpable homicide and reckless and/or negligent driving is investigated.
