Amushelelo gets final warning for violating bail conditions

THE nationwide interventions that local political activist Michael Amushelelo takes to different companies and organisations to appeal for better wages and working conditions for workers have landed the activist in hot water after he was slapped with a court notice for violating his bail conditions.

In a letter served to Amushelelo’s lawyer, the chief clerk to the Prosecutor-General warned Amushelelo and his co-accused to desist from leaving the district of Windhoek without authorization, adding that this is a violation of their third bail condition.

“Kindly take notice that it has been brought to our attention that your clients Michael Ndali Saddam Amushelelo and Greigorie Benit Cloete have on two separate occasions, on the 5th as well as on the 12th of April 2022, left the Magisterial District of Windhoek without authorization by the investigating officer as ordered by Magistrate Court of Windhoek upon their release on bail,” the chief clerk wrote.

Instead of seeking authorization from the investigating officer, the accused sent WhatsApp messages to the investigating officer stating: “Good morning, I hereby inform you that I have left the district of Windhoek this morning to attend to an urgent matter outside the district of Windhoek. I will be back in the late evening.”

“This is a violation of condition number three, relating to their release on bail as ordered by the court on the 14th of October 2019, which requires them to seek ‘prior authorization’ by the investigating officer before leaving the district of Windhoek. Kindly further take notice that failure to desist from this behaviour will result in your clients being arrested without any further warning, and an application for revocation of their bail being made forthwith,” the PG’s office stated.
