A PORTUGUESE civil engineer who is currently working in Angola and who crossed into Namibia to do shopping was robbed by three knife-wielding suspects at Oshakati on Saturday.
According to the police, Luis Miguel Gomez Mendes (45) came out of a restaurant and was walking with two friends towards their parked vehicle when they were attacked by three unknown men who demanded that they hand over any valuable items in their possession.
The police said that the suspects singled out the victim, searched him and took a cash amount of N$1 500; a Nokia 20 cellphone; an iPhone 6 cellphone and a set of keys for a hotel room.
The total value of the stolen items is N$7 500.
The thieves also stole Mendes’ Portuguese passport and ID before they fled the scene in a white getaway sedan.
The police said the restaurant’s CCTV footage will be made available to them to view for possible clues about the suspects.
It is alleged that Mendes, who is based in Ondjiva, arrived in Namibia for shopping on Saturday and was planning to return to Angola on Sunday.
No arrest and no recovery were effected.
