THE Oshana Region will host its first volleyball tournament for corporate companies and the public under the banner of Northern Volleyball for All.
The tournament is set for 7 May, with 32 teams expected to battle for the grand prize of N$5 000, a floating trophy and gold medals. The second-placed team gets N$3 000 and silver medals, and the third-placed goes home with N$2 000 and bronze medals.
Owner of ACR Event and founder of the tournament Asheel Ramjit said for years it was only held in Windhoek.
“There are no major events such as the volleyball tournament taking place and this is one of the main reasons I want to start this event for the North, to bring it closer to the people,” he said.
The tournament is open to corporates, businesses, and the public but not for registered or professional league volleyball players.
Ramjit said teams have to be mixed 50/50 males and females.
“It is for amateurs and everyone participating should have fun and enjoy themselves without being under pressure of committing a foul.”
He called on the public to come in big numbers and show their support on 7 May.
“The entry fee will be N$20, and there will be live DJs to entertain the crowd for the day,” he said.
Northern Volleyball for All is sponsored by First National Bank and Windhoek Draught.
