EXPECTANT mothers on maternity leave can now claim 100% of their basic wage for three months, while those on sick leave can claim up to 75% of their basic wage for 12 months, according to the recently amended Social Security Act.
The amendments to the regulations, which were gazetted on 25 March 2022 by the Ministry of Social Security, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation, stipulate that those on maternity leave can claim a maximum amount of N$15 000 per month for 12 weeks.
Those on extended sick leave, who are eligible to claim 75% for 12 months, can claim a maximum amount of N$11 250 per month. However, that 75% claim is only valid for the first 12 months. After that, the concerned individuals can only claim 65% of their salary up to a maximum amount of N$9 750.
Individuals who are eligible for these benefits should submit the required forms on the applicable deadlines. The forms are available on the Social Security Commission website at https://www.ssc.org.na/.
