ONDANGWA Town, through the Office of the Mayor, will soon launch its first Mayoral Fund initiative to assist community members of the town.
The Fund aims to improve the living conditions of needy Ondangwa residents during unforeseen desperate situations.
Town spokesperson Petrina Shitalangaho-Mutikisha said they saw the need to support residents who find themselves in situations beyond control, hence the establishment of a Mayoral Fund.

Shitalangaho-Mutikisha said this is in line with the Harambee Prosperity Plan under the pillar ‘Social Progress’ with which the government reaffirmed its responsibility to take care of those in need and to create a conducive environment for all to succeed.
“It is in the same spirit that the Ondangwa Town Council recognized the existence of different economic and social classifications in town and that the Mayoral Fund was created to support where applicable,” she said.
Shitalangaho-Mutikisha said there are poverty-stricken families who Council could lend a helping hand on a small scale. However, in the absence of such a framework, it has been difficult to assist.
She said the Mayoral Fund can help communities by assisting when necessary, either in cash or in kind, and depending on the need.
Shitalangaho-Mutikisha said measures shall be in place to ensure the Fund serves its intended purpose through the established committee responsible for overseeing operations.
The Fund will be officially launched on Saturday at the Ondangwa Airport Lodge by Minister of Urban and Rural Development Erastus Uutoni.
