THE Omusati police are investigating a case of reckless and/or negligent driving after one person died as a result of a head-on collision.
The incident occurred around 20:30 on the Oshikuku -Oshakati main road at Esiku-nesiku village.
The driver of a Mazda with Ruacana registration reportedly lost control over the vehicle.
Police Commander Commissioner Titus Shikongo said as a result the vehicle swerved onto the opposite lane and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle, a UDI truck that was travelling from Oshikuku to Oshakati.
“The Mazda was extensively damaged, resulting in the death of one passenger, while the driver and three other passengers sustained serious injuries,” he said.
Shikongo identified the injured as Muhuka Shinyenge (27), the driver of the Mazda, and his passengers Otjilalele Ngaufedwe (25), Mukwatjivi Tjiwereka and Mwaheta (surname unknown).
The truck was damaged but the driver, Gabriel Joel (57), and his passenger, Samuel Benjamin, sustained no injuries.
The deceased has not been identified yet.
The victims were transferred to the Oshakati and Oshikuku hospitals.
