AN investigation has been launched to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a generator at the Opuwo State Hospital in the Kunene Region on Tuesday.
Ministry of Health and Social Services’ Executive Director Ben Nangombe said the fire started at a standby generator stall around 21:00.
“No injuries were recorded and the fire did not spread to any part of the hospital,” he said.
The fire was extinguished by hospital staff, the Namibian Police, the Opuwo Fire Brigade and workers of the northern electricity distributor, NORED.
Nangombe stated that medical and other essential services were not interrupted by the fire.
A backup generator was provided by NORED Tuesday evening.
