THE grasslands have turned green and the crop fields are promising following recent torrential rains recorded in the whole extension of the northern regions — from the extreme east of the Oshikoto Region to the extreme west of Omusati.
Subsistence farmers, who were worried about the late start of the rainy season, are smiling again.
“It has rained continuously for the past days and we are now happy. Our crop fields are promising and the grazing is excellent,” said Mateus Kamati Nelumbu, the councillor of the Onayena Constituency, Oshikoto Region.
Torrential rains were also recorded in the Ohangwena, Oshana and Omusati regions.
“Some parts received more rain than others, but rainfall was recorded at every corner of the Omusati region. It came somewhat late, but those farmers who have not yet finished ploughing their fields still have time to do so,” said regional governor Erginus Endjala.
He said that the crop fields look promising, the grazing has improved tremendously and there is enough water in the pans for the livestock.
He noted that nature itself has refuted recent claims of a device that allegedly prevents rain at the Etunda irrigation scheme and surrounding areas.
“Etunda and the surrounding areas have received as much rain as the rest of the region,” he said.
