THE founder and owner of the Lewcor Group, Chris Lewis (71), and another man died after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned on the Okahandja-Ovitoto main road about 18 km from Okahandja.
The passenger was identified as Beno Snewe (21), a resident of Ondamekondo in the Ovitoto area.
Lewis founded Lewcor in 1988, while contracted by the overseas Petroleum and Investment Company (OPIC) Malaysia.
In 2019, Sperrgebiet Diamond Mining (SDM), a subsidiary of Lewcor, bought the Elizabeth Bay mine near Lüderitz from Namdeb.
Lewcor specialises in mining, plant hire and civil engineering as well as other smaller operations.
The head of Nampol’s media relations subdivision, Chief Inspector Elifas Kuwinga, said the driver lost control on a curve near the Professor Peter Katjavivi Bridge, where after the vehicle left the road and overturned.
Kuwinga stated the accident happened around 14:30 on Thursday.
“Both the driver and passenger died on the scene,” he said.
The next of kin have been informed.
