A three-month-old, a seven-month-old and a one-year-old are among those who tested positive for Covid-19 over the last week.
According to the Ministry of Health and Social Services’ latest Covid-19 update, 23 new cases, which include the three-month-old, have been reported in the latest reporting cycle. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 2 545.
The 23 new cases are from 895 results, translating to a 2,6% positivity ratio. Of these, the Ohangwena (9) and Oshana (4) regions recorded the highest number of new infections. However, the Erongo, Khomas, Oshikoto, Omaheke and Otjozondjupa regions consistently recorded the highest number of new positive cases over the last week.
Of the confirmed cases, 25 are hospitalised and five are in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). Furthermore, 23 of the 25 hospitalisations and all of the ICU cases are unvaccinated.
The number of Covid-19 hospitalisations reported during the last week ranges from 21 to 27 and the number of ICU cases from 2 to 7. More than 90% of the hospitalisations and all of the ICU cases were reported to be unvaccinated.
Three deaths from the Ohangwena and Kunene regions were reported over the last week, which brings the total number of Covid-19 deaths to 4 009. The deceased were two men, between the ages of 77 and 96 years, from Engela and Eenhana and another man (76) from Opuwo. All of the deceased were unvaccinated.
So far, 376 989 people, including 2 823 children, have been fully vaccinated. This represents 21,2% of the total target population of 1 779 271.
