A 38-YEAR-OLD man accused of raping a girl since she was six years old was remanded in custody after making a brief appearance in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The man allegedly raped the girl, who is now ten years old, during 2018 and also on 19 February this year, at different times and places.
According to Oshana police spokesperson Inspector Thomas Aiyambo, the accused knows the victim very well, as he has a child with her mother and cohabitated at a house in Ekuku, Oshakati West.
“It is alleged that the suspect raped the victim when the mother had gone to work,” he said.
Aiyambo stated that after a lengthy period of being silenced by the accused, the victim opened up to the mother on Tuesday this week after a Life Skills lesson at school.
The case was postponed to 28 March for further police investigation.
