THE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, with a delegation went on a trade and investment mission to Angola aimed at economical benefits for both countries.

The main purpose of the mission, amongst others, is to continue exploring potential business and investment opportunities, create networks for sellers, buyers, agents and suppliers, and address some of the challenges and barriers affecting trade and investment between the countries.

The Minister said the mission is also aimed at empowering local business people from both countries, to enable them to make a meaningful contribution to the growth of the economy for sustainable development to be realized.

“I am here today with a ministerial and private sector delegation to engage one another on issues of common importance for us to unlock further our economic cooperation for the benefit of our people. The delegation I am leading is also seeking both trade and investment opportunities in both our countries. I am fully convinced that through our political, economic and cultural ties we shall record some notable achievements in that regard,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.

She added that the relations between the countries are rooted in a shared history of the struggle, blood and sacrifice.

“We not only share a common people, heritage and culture, but a common border. Angola is geographically strategic to Namibia, and vice versa. Moreover, Angola and Namibia are both members of the same regional and international bodies, such as SADC, the African Union, and the World Trade Organization. This demonstrates a vision of working together towards achieving common objectives via regional and global platforms,” the Minister said.

Last year, the two governments elevated the Joint Commission mechanism to a Bi-National Commission, which will now be co-chaired by the presidents of Namibia and Angola.
