Oshakati consulate takes service to Angolan community

Staff Reporter

THE Angolan consulate at Oshakati has launched a campaign to provide necessary documents to members of the Angolan community in the northern regions of Namibia.

The consulate said in a recent statement that officials will travel to localities in the Omusati, Ohangwena, Kunene and Oshikoto Regions to meet members of the community, exchange information and issue documents to those who need them.

The campaign kicks off simultaneously at Outapi and Omuthiya on Saturday before moving to Opuwo and Tsumeb the next day.

Okongo and Oshikango will be visited on the 26th and 27th February respectively.

According to the announcement, consular officials will be at each of the abovementioned localities from 10:00 to 16:00.

The documents to be issued include Angolan birth certificates and consular identity cards.

Consular cards can be issued only to those aged 14 or older. Applicants who have no documents to prove their Angolan nationality must be accompanied by two older witnesses and present a written declaration from the headman of the village where the applicant lives in Namibia.

Members of the Angolan community will also have the opportunity to review or replace their voter cards in anticipation of their country’s August 2022 general elections.
According to a newly promulgated law, Angolans in the diaspora will for the first time be allowed to vote outside the country.
