Unvaccinated continue to dominate hospitals

THE Ministry of Health and Social Services’ latest Covid-19 update once again showed that the unvaccinated continue to dominate hospitalization and Covid-19 deaths statistics.

According to the update, 110 Covid-19 cases are hospitalized and nine are in Intensive Care Units (ICUs).

All ICU cases and 101 of the hospitalized cases are unvaccinated.

Two Covid-19 deaths were also reported and both of the deceased were unvaccinated.

The two deaths were reported from the Windhoek and Eenhana districts.

A 33-year-old man passed away on 26 January and an 88-year-old man died on 30 January.

The Ministry reported 44 new positive cases out of 700 results in the latest 24-hour reporting cycle. This represents a 6.3% positivity ratio.

The Omusati (13) and Khomas (10) regions reported the highest number of new cases.

In total, there are 8 101 active cases, 46 cases less than the previous 24-hour reporting cycle.

Among the newly confirmed cases are eight learners, two students and one healthcare worker.

The country recorded 90 recoveries.

Namibia is still striving to reach its vaccination target of 1 471 973 adults.

At the moment, only 358 476 adults have been fully vaccinated and 996 children aged 12 to 17. This brings the cumulative number of fully vaccinated people to 359 472.
