THE ministry of health and social services today announced 13 Covid-19 deaths in the country, as the virus still continues to claim lives amid news that the worst is over.
This is according to the latest Covid-19 health update for 25 January 2022 provided by the health ministry in which they announced 83 new positive cases from 982 results.
From the reported 13 deaths today, one death occurred on 3 January 2021, 11 occurred between 19-23 January 2021 and one occurred on 24 January 2021. None of the deceased cases were vaccinated.
The Kunene region recorded the most cases, constituting 21.7% of the total cases, followed by Omusati and Ohangwena regions with nine cases each.
Among the confirmed cases are 21 learners from different schools, two teachers, one student and four health care workers. Thirteen cases are fully vaccinated of which one has received a booster dose and one did not specify the number of doses received. In total 69 cases are not vaccinated, accounting for 83.1% of the total confirmed cases.
The number of active cases is 8 359 and 168 cases are currently hospitalised across all regions. Two of the hospitalised cases have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 17 are fully vaccinated, while 149 are not vaccinated constituting 88.7% of all hospitalised cases. A total of 25 cases are in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of which two are fully vaccinated.
