THE unvaccinated still dominate ICU and hospital admissions with 71 new Covid-19 cases out of 1 065 results reported in the last 24-hour reporting cycle and 84,5% of these cases are unvaccinated.

The new cases are reported from all regions, with the exception of Ohangwena. The Zambezi region leads with 19 new cases and all 19 are learners from St. Kizito College in Katima Mulilo.

The country also recorded four Covid deaths from three districts, namely Windhoek, Gobabis and Tsandi. The deceased were all unvaccinated men.

There are currently 8 508 active cases in the country, of which 218 are hospitalised and 23 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). 196 of the hospitalised and 21 of the ICU patients are also unvaccinated.

Namibia is still striving towards its vaccination target goal of 1 471 973 adults, as announced by the Ministry of Health and Social Services in last week’s Covid-19 update.

As of 23 January, only 354 946 adults and 752 children (aged 12 – 17) have been fully vaccinated. The cumulative number of fully vaccinated people are 355 698, translating to 20% of the target population.
