OVER the past five days, 90 Covid-19 deaths were recorded and none of them was vaccinated.
“This underscores that vaccination against Covid-19 remains one of the best interventions to protect oneself, loved ones and the community from worse outcomes of Covid-19 infection,” the Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, said in his daily update.
“The decision to vaccinate remains voluntary but should be taken, considering the benefits illustrated by current evidence,” he said.
In the latest 24-hour reported cycle, ten deaths from five districts were recorded and none were vaccinated.
From 2 015 test results, 309 confirmed cases were reported, representing a 15.3% positivity ratio.
The ages range from one year to 110 years.
Cases were reported from 13 regions. Khomas had the most, namely 81 of which seven are re-infections, constituting 26.2% of the total cases. Otjozondjupa had 30 cases, of which one is a re-infection, accounting for 9.7% of the total reported cases.
Of the total confirmed cases, 243 cases are not vaccinated, accounting for 78.6%.
From nine regions 335 new recoveries were reported.
The active cases are 10 255.
There are 346 cases hospitalized across all regions of which 89% are not vaccinated. Of the 35 cases in ICUs, 97.1% are not vaccinated.
By 13 January, a total of 410 345 people aged 18 years and older have received one dose of the vaccine, representing 27.9% of the target population.
A total of 108 552 have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, while 241 543 adults have received two doses of other vaccine types. Therefore, 350 095 adults have completed their vaccination, translating to 23.8% of the target population.
In addition, 2 741 children aged 12 to 17 years have received one dose of the Pfizer vaccine, representing 0.9% of the target population. Of these, 514 are fully vaccinated.
The cumulative number of people vaccinated with the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine for both adults and children is 413 086, of which 350 609 are fully vaccinated, translating to 19.7% of the total target population, while 9 962 people have received a booster dose.
