A 48-YEAR-OLD woman was killed instantly when the reportedly unlicensed driver of the unroadworthy pickup she and six other passengers were travelling in lost control of the car which then left the road and overturned.
According to Sergeant Anastasia Frans, Erongo police co-ordinator of community affairs, the accident happened on Saturday at around 07:00 approximately 10 km from Omaruru on the D36 road on the way to Uis.
“It is alleged that a driver of a white, single cab, Nissan pickup (N 569 KR) lost control of the vehicle after which it left the road and overturned,” Frans said.
The injured people were taken to the Omaruru State Hospital.
Once recovered, the driver will be charged with culpable homicide; reckless and/or negligent driving; driving an unroadworthy vehicle on a public road; and without a valid driver’s licence.
