Oukwanyama queen bids emotional goodbye to Nelulu

THE Oukwanyama Queen Martha Mwadinomho Kristian Nelumbu was left in tears while biding farewell to Senior Traditional Councillor and Chairman of the Oukwanyama Traditional Authority (OuTA), George Nelulu, who retired last week after serving the traditional authority for 18 years.

During the farewell ceremony at Ohangwena today, a visibly emotional Queen Nelumbu called on her council to work in peace and unity for the benefit of the Oukwanyama community.

Nelulu on his part expressed that he could no longer continue working for the OuTA as his peace has been threatened.

“My fellow traditional leaders have on two occasions wanted me gone and accused me of misappropriating funds from the traditional authority’s account when they knew very well that I had raised enough funds to clear all our debts,” he said.

Nelulu added that should the books be audited, all the money can be accounted for and that he didn’t steal a single cent.

“My hands are clean,” he said, adding that everyone should be proud of the traditional authority’s financial standing, which has drastically improved since he joined the leadership nearly two decades ago.

Nelulu assured Queen Nelumbu that he will always be available to render his services and advise when needed.

He then wished the remaining leaders peace, strength, love and for them to remain committed to the Oukwanyama people.

Nelulu is credited for implementing a successful turnaround strategy, as well as helping the queen reorganise and revitalise the affairs of the OuTA.
