THE Ministry of Health and Social Services has announced a significant decrease in the number of new infections and the positivity ratio compared to the previous 24-hour cycle, with 578 new Covid-19 cases reported in the latest cycle.
Health minister Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, however, said there should not be read too much in the indicators.
“We must continue to exercise maximum caution and practice public health measures so that we change the course of the pandemic trajectory,” Shangula said.
Among the confirmed cases are 45 learners, 26 healthcare workers, 17 students and ten teachers.
Of the infected, 45 cases have received one dose of the vaccine and 75 are fully vaccinated.
A total of 461 positive cases are unvaccinated.
The number of active cases has increased to 3 314, and a total of 72 cases are hospitalized, of which three are in Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
One of the hospitalized cases has received one dose of a vaccine and six cases are fully vaccinated. None of the ICU cases are vaccinated.
By 10 December, a total of 387 408 people have received one dose of the vaccine, of which 93 610 got Johnson & Johnson which is administered as one dose. Of these, 214 are children aged 12 to 17 years, while 232 575 adults have received two doses.
In total, 326 185 people have completed the vaccination.
