A GROUP of youths in the Oshana Region will be hosting the first-ever Zusammen soccer tournament which is held to bring hope in trying pandemic times.

The tournament is scheduled for 10 to 12 December at the Oshakati Independence Stadium.

Founder of the tournament Olavi “Cena” Kandele said the event is to give hope to Namibians who are battling with the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, with some who have lost loved ones due to the virus.

Kandele said so far a total of 15 teams including Iipumbu Shimi FC have already registered. Registrations close on Wednesday 8 December.

“We plan to host the tournament annually, hopefully also contributing to the discovery of talent in the region,” he said.

Kandele said the winner of the tournament will walk away with N$10 000, 16 gold medals and a floating trophy.

The runner-up will get N$4 000 and 16 silver medals, while the team in third place will take home N$1 500 and 16 bronze medals.

The top goal scorer will walk away with N$ 200, while the Man of the Tournament gets N$ 300 and a gift hamper.

Kandele called on soccer lovers to support the event but to adhere to Covid-19 regulations such as wearing of masks and keeping social distances.
