BOXING has been on the up for some time now and fans have been afforded some of the most sought-after fights since the government lifted the ban on contact sports to keep fans entertained.
Bulelo Boxing Academy will be hosting its year-end amateur boxing bonanza at Smallpark in Ondangwa in the Oshana Region on Friday, including an exhibition fight by world champion Harry Simon.
According to academy owner Hedison Nghipondoka, eight fights are planned for the night.
In 2012, Nghipondoka established the boxing academy to train future boxers and ensure that they are exposed to competition.
“With the year nearly over, we want to give boxing lovers in the northern areas our final fights as a way of concluding the year,” he said.
Nghipondoka said this final bonanza is not only about providing entertainment to the Ondangwa community and those from surrounding areas but keeping boxers active despite the festive season.
“We want to continue bringing people together through boxing, ensuring that talent is identified in our areas,” he said.
Boxers from Rainbow Boxing Club are also expected to partake in the final bonanza of the year.
Last month, MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club concluded the northern amateur boxing championship in Oshakati. The platform, which delivered exciting bouts, featured minors who trade leather to prove themselves as upcoming boxers.
