Namibian sport team off to Lesotho

THE Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service has sent off the Namibian team to the ninth edition of the African Union Sport Council (AUSC) Region 5 Under 20 games in Maseru, Lesotho, scheduled for 3 to 13 December.

The group consist of 151 people, namely 77 athletes, 38 team officials, eight delegates of the Local Organization Committee, five signatories, 13 technical officials, two volunteers, five drivers, and three journalists.

The games will be played with no spectators and dignitaries are limited to avoid crowding of spaces, in line with Covid-19 health protocol and guidelines.
Minister Agnes Tjongarero encouraged the team to “shine and keep the Namibian flag high”.

Team Namibia consists of the following sport codes: Athletics (para athletes, visually impaired and able bodies), boxing, volleyball, swimming, woman football and tennis.
At the games, 14 Region 5 member states and four non-members, the Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar and Mauritius, will compete.
