GARY Fox, the owner of Swakopmund-based Heliworx Namibia, died in a helicopter accident this morning.
Fox took off from Matsapha Airport in Eswatini (the former Swaziland) at 7:30 en route to Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa.
At 7:45, the Emergency Locator Transmitter was activated.
The Bell 206 helicopter with registration marks V5HOC had crashed in the Montigny forest, 30km from Matsapha.
Fox, a South African national, was the only person on board.
Oscar Plichta, investigative officer of the Directorate Aircraft Accidents at the Ministry of Works and Transport, confirmed the accident.
“The Eswatini authorities are investigating the cause of the accident and we are awaiting further instructions from them,” he said.
