Crime in Oshana concerning

Maria David

A TOTAL of eight cases of rape were recorded in the Oshana Region from the beginning of September this year to 7 October.

Of the eight reported cases, only four arrests have so far been made.

This is according to Oshana Regional Commander, Commissioner Rauha Amwele, during a briefing with Namibia police chief, Inspector General Sebastian Ndeitunga, at Oshakati on Friday.

Amwele said although crime is unpredictable, they are monitoring the situation on a daily basis.

The Oshana Region is thus hosting a joint operation in collaboration with the Omusati and Ohangwena regions.

The operation called ‘Typhoon phase 2’ commenced on Friday.

Amwele further indicated that during the period under review, they registered five cases of stolen motor vehicles.

One of the vehicles was found abandoned at Oshakati and the remaining four are yet to be recovered and no arrests have been made.

“We also recorded five cases of armed robbery, of which two arrests were made in connection with three cases,” she said.

The region also recorded three murder cases, with only one arrest made.

For the remaining two cases, no suspects have yet been linked to the murders.

Amwele also indicated that they are facing a challenge of resources at the vast region with three major towns, including a lack of vehicles.

“We currently only have a total of 28 vehicles grounded,” she concluded.
