A SECURITY guard, identified as Ricardo Oxurub, is reportedly on the run after he stole N$300 000 in cash that was destined to be loaded into automatic teller machines at Arandis.

According to the incident report provided by the Namibian Police in the Erongo Region, the theft of the huge amount of cash occurred at about 11:00 on Friday morning while the cash in transit crew of G4S was busy loading money into an ATM at the Oceanview Spar shopping centre in Swakopmund.

The report states that the cash in transit crew picked the cash up from the Bank Windhoek Branch in Swakopmund and was doing the rounds loading the money into ATMs.

While at the Oceanview Spar shopping centre, two crew members left the vehicle to load the bank machine while a third member stayed behind to guard the cash boxes in the car.

According to the report, upon their return to the vehicle, the two men found that their colleague had disappeared and that one money bag containing the N$300 000 in cash was also gone.

The 35-year-old Oxurub has so far managed to evade arrest and the Namibian Police has requested the public to assist them with tracing the suspect and the stolen money.

Any person with information about the whereabouts of Ricardo Oxurub or the stolen cash is requested to contact Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Gurirab at 081 233 3745 or Detective Inspector Rosa Tjihavero at 081 413 7105 or to provide such information at the police station nearest to them.
