A FEMALE octogenarian resident of the Eengwena village in the Ongenga Constituency, Ohangwena Region, was arrested Wednesday accused of murdering her last born son, 40-year-old Ruben Moses Hashiyana.
It is alleged that the 86-year-old suspect hit the deceased with a hoe handle, killing him instantly.
The incident happened on 3 September, but the suspect was only arrested five days later.
Asked why the police responded slow to the murder case, Inspector Kaume Itumba said that there are some “complicated issues” still being investigated.
“We will only have a clear picture of what actually transpired later,” he said.
A source at the village said that there appears to have been attempts to cover up the incident, initially presenting it as natural death.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
