BEATRICE Masilingi will not be participating in tonight’s 200m women’s final at the Weltklasse Zürich Diamond League as she had to pull out last minute due to health related issues.
Her coach Henk Botha told Informante that it was not an easy decision to withdraw the 18-year-old Masilingi from the race, but because she is down bad with the flu, she needs time to rest and recover.
Botha said Masilingi’s fellow countrywoman, Christine Mboma, will, however, be competing in the same race and that Namibians still have so much to look forward to.
Although Mboma is the clear favourite to win the 200m finals after she won gold at the Brussels Diamond League with an impressive time of 21.84, she will have tough competition tonight.
The lineup of the 200m women’s final at the Letzigrund Stadium will consist of Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, Marie-Josee TaLou of Côte d’Ivoire, Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith and Beth Dobbin, as well Dezerea Bryant of the USA and Switzerland’s Mujinga Kambundji.
The 200m women’s final race will take place at 21:44 local time, on channel 228 on DSTV.
