THE Namibian police in the Oshikoto Region have successfully arrested a 30-year-old man, who allegedly raped a 36-year-old woman on Monday last week.
The victim, who reportedly suffers from speech impairment lives with only a guardian.
The rape incident was only reported on Wednesday after members of NamPol took community policing services closer for the people who find it difficult to access police stations due to distance.
Community Affairs Officer, Inspector Ellen Nehale, said that they have a task team that goes to various villages to offer police services to the community and upon arriving at Onkumbula the rape incident was then reported to NamPol.
“It is alleged that the suspect told the victim to follow him and collect a pumpkin from the suspect’s house. While the two were walking passing the bushes, the suspect then raped her,” she said.
Nehale stated that the matter was reported to the victim’s guardian, who followed the footstep after the guardian got worried that the suspect took forever to return.
“The victim and the suspect are neighbours without any existing relationship,” she noted.
Nehale urged people to always try and a way to report any cases on time for justice to prevail.
