THE daughter in law of the 81-year-old Elizabeth Maria Cloete was arrested after she beat the old woman so severely that she succumbed to injuries in the hospital a short while later.
The old woman is one of three people that were murdered over the past weekend.
According to the Namibian Police’s weekend crime bulletin, the incident where the elderly Cloete was beaten to death occurred at a house on the Block A residential area of Rehoboth on Friday at 10:00.
The report states that the 33-year-old suspect and the grandmother were arguing when the incident turned to violence.
The victim was rushed to one of the local hospitals but succumbed to her injuries a short while later.
In another case of murder, a man identified as the 30-year-old Joel Dhiladhileni, a resident of Greenwell Matongo in Windhoek, died on the spot after he was attacked with a panga.
He sustained a deep wound on his upper leg and bled to death where he fell.
It is alleged that the suspect and the deceased were involved in an argument at the time of the incident.
The 42-year-old suspect was arrested after he handed himself over to officers on duty at the Wanaheda Police Station on Friday.
In the third incident, a man identified as the 30-year-old Naftal Hadjiva, died on the scene after he was stabbed in the right upper side of his chest and in the back with an Okapi knife by a 28-year-old man.
It is further alleged that the deceased and suspect was also involved in an argument at Omungholyo cuca shop in the Omungholyo Village in the area of Ondobe which led to the stabbing incident.
According to the report, the incident occurred at about 22:50 on Friday evening.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident.
