THE MTC-Kilimanjaro Boxing Club has cancelled its second part of the Northern Amateur Championship for better preparation of the final part of the tournament which is scheduled for October.
Founder of the Club Joseph Bernhard promise to host a memorable fighting exhibition during the month of October as their final tournament of the year which is also in line with the preparation of the MTC Youth Games.
He explained that the cancellation of the second part follows COVID-19 regulations that has been changing with regard to the number of people allowed at gatherings.
“We are already in August and preparing for the second part would be impossible for our boxers. That is why we just decided to go to part three in October,” he said.
The northern amateur boxing championship was divided into three parts of which the first part took place in May, the second leg was expected in July, but was then postponed to August until its cancellation. While the final leg is scheduled for October 13-14 at the Oshakati Independence Stadium.
He indicated that on the 13 of October a semi-final will be held to conclude with the finals on 14 October.
“We expect to host 25 bouts on the night that will be representing the five northern regions,” he said.
Bernhard stated that the 50 fighters are expected to come from Oshana, Omusati, Ohangwena, Oshikoto and Kunene regions.
He urged all five regions to send through the names of their boxers with their certificate before15 September 2021.
