THE spirit of unity ignited by Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masislingi at the Tokyo Olympic Games has gained momentum among Namibians in battling a crisis created by a huge bush fire to the southeast of Windhoek.
The giant fire has so far destroyed an estimated 100 000 hectares of grazing while losses of livestock and wildlife have also been reported.
Workers, farmers, and volunteers from all over Namibia have come together to stand as one in the battle against one of the most devastating fires in the area in recent history.
In this regard, individuals and businesses have come together to provide food and drink to the men and women has been fighting the flames for more than two days already.
Other necessities such as firefighting equipment and water are also being taken out to the battlefront.
In the meantime, it has been reported on a special social media group that was created to coordinate assistance and firefighters that the blaze has been brought under control in the area of Bloukrans, Hamis, Opdam, Hatsamas, Dordabis and Hondingaan.
The fire, that in some instances stretch along front several kilometres long, is still however being blown along by strong winds is still burning on farms to the south of Dordabis and it is slowly moving south in the direction of Rehoboth and Groot Aub by strong winds.
