Crash claims two lives

THE 40-year-old Josephat Nakale, the driver of a Toyota bakkie, as well as his passenger, Jaakly Alfredo, died as a result of a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the T-junction where the road from Uis intersects with the B2 road north of Henties Bay.

According to the accident report provided by the Namibian Police in the Erongo Region, the fatal crash occurred at about 06:30 on Friday morning when the driver of the double cab bakkie failed to stop at the intersection and crashed into the side of a heavy transport truck driving towards Terrace Bay.

The impact between the two vehicles was of such a violent nature that both the driver of the bakkie and his passenger had to be cut from the wreckage with equipment known as the Jaws of Life.

The report states that Alfredo was killed immediately and that Nakale succumbed to injures in the Cottage Hospital in Swakopmund a few hours later.

The driver of the heavy truck, according to the report, did not sustain any injuries.
