WITH an extraordinary increase in the COVID-19 death toll, the City of Windhoek is dealing with an unusually high demand for gravesites in the various cemeteries.
According to City of Windhoek spokesperson, Lydia Amutenya, previously, cemeteries were mainly busy over the weekends, however, the situation has changed dramatically over the past two months.
“It is heart rendering to see various families filling the different cemeteries to hold services for their loved ones that passed away,” she said.
In the meantime, grave masons are constantly measuring out new gravesites before digging can commence.
Amutenya said that the City of Windhoek extends condolences to all the residents who lost their loved ones and pleaded for patience from the bereaved families because the process of preparing graves takes some time to complete.
