Germany sends emergency aid to Namibia

THE world’s largest aircraft has left Germany with a consignment of emergency medical supplies destined for Namibia that was donated by that country’s military.

 

The Executive Director of the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS), Ben Nangombe confirmed that much-needed aid will reach the country by tomorrow.

 

Nangombe said the supplies will help with the COVID-19 crisis that the country is currently facing.

Following the rapid surge of COVID-19 in Namibia and the subsequent call by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, to all Namibia’s diplomatic missions to mobilize support for Namibia.

 

The Namibian Embassy in Belgium submitted an official request to the EU Civil Protection Mechanism for support which led to the consignment of emergency aid already on its way to the country.

 

The world’s largest aircraft, the Antanov AN-225 is a six-engine giant that can load 254 tons in its huge cargo bay.
