AFTER spending weeks in the mortuary the remains of the late Professor Mburumba Kerina might find a final resting place in the comfort of his late mother’s grave Magtalena Getzen in the Khomasdal Cemetery in Windhoek.
A family member of the late Professor Kerina confirmed that if his wish of being buried at the Chiefs’ Shrine in Okahandja is not granted, he can be laid to rest with his late mother.
The open grave that was dug for the man credited with giving Namibia its name at the Chiefs’ Shrine in Okahandja will be closed after a traditional ritual has taken place. According to tradition a sheep must be slaughtered and placed in the grave before it is filled up again.
Professor Kerina’s funeral was scheduled for Sunday, however, a high Court Judge ruled in favour of the Ovaherero Traditional Authority that brought an urgent application to interdict the family to go ahead with the burial in Okahandja.
Kerina died on the 14th of June 2021 in Windhoek due to COVID-19 complications.
