PRIME Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila has extended condolences to the family of the late Chief Samuel Ankama, following his passing on Sunday morning at Ongwediva Medi-park.
Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said the late Ankama will be remembered for the commitment and professionalism with which he dealt with the tasks assigned to him.
According to the Prime Minister, the late Ankama served the country in different capacities having worked not only as an educator and as a public officer bearer, but also as a freedom fighter who actively participated in the struggle for the country’s independence.
She noted that throughout has service to the Namibian people, the late Ankama displayed the highest level of commitment and dedication.
“I had the pleasure of working with him when he was serving as a Deputy Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister from 2018 to 21 March 2020,” she said.
Kuugongelwa-Amadhila stated that his legacy of hard work will always be remembered by all of those that knew him.
Ankama died at the age of 63, following a short battle with COVID-19.
The late Ankama, was elected as Oshakati’s first mayor in 1992. He held the office until 1995.
He joined Swapo in the early 1980s and served as the information officer for the Council of Churches in Namibia (CCN) and National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW).
