THE two-year-old Paulus Kalomo has died after he was trapped in a traditional hut that caught fire at a homestead near the Oshiyeleka Village.
Omusati Regional Commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo said the tragic incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at around 13h00 at the village in the Etayi Constituency.
According to Shikongo, preliminary investigations revealed that the child was playing with two other children aged 5 and 9 that was busy cooking food at in the hut at the traditional homestead.
He said that the hut caught fire and the little boy was trapped inside.
“The two bigger children managed to escape unharmed but they left the little boy inside. By the time the elders came to rescue him he has already sustained severe burns all over his body,” he said.
Shikongo stated that the little boy was rushed to Oshikuku Catholic Hospital and transferred to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital soon after but he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
