Phone trade leads to man’s death

A 30-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his friend during an argument over a mobile phone at the Okatana Ondjondjo Village.

Oshana Community Affairs representative, Inspector Thomas Aiyambo, said the incident occurred about 22h00 on Saturday evening.

Aiyambo stated that the duo had an argument over a mobile phone that was part f a trade between them.

“They fought about unsettled payments on the phone. The deceased person had an outstanding debt on the device,” he said.

He indicated that the victim was stabbed three times with a knife. He sustained stab wounds to his head, his neck and had a deep cut on his left arm.

“The knife brand is not yet known as the suspect fled the scene,” he added.

NamPol has also arrested the owner of the shebeen and bartender where the deadly fight occurred for violating COVID-19 regulations.

Aiyambo again urged the public to adhere to COVID-19 regulations.

“If the owner of the bar didn’t open for business, the murder incident would probably not have happened. I am appealing to the Namibian nation to respect the law and comply with COVID-19 regulations at all times,” he said.

Aiyambo stated that the Namibian Police will not compromise with lawless citizens who are not following the rules of law, specifically those set in place to curb the spread of the coronavirus within communities.
