THE Ovaherero community will have a drive through tomorrow to honour the late Paramount Chief of the Ovaherero, Advocate Vekuii Rukoro.
Rukoro died on Friday, 18 June, due to Covid -19 at a Windhoek hospital.
Riruako Komeheke, chief organiser of the drive through said that the event is to allow the Ovaharero people to mourn their Chief and pay their last respects during the current environment that does not allow for large gatherings due to the pandemic.
Komeheke noted that they will start the drive through convoy at 16h00 at the Khomasdal stadium in order to accommodate open space and cars, as well as adhere to the Covid-19 rules and regulations.
All the cars that are participating will have to carry a red flag.
Mourners will make a turn at the Katutura Hospital in the direction of the Robert Mugabe Clinic and drive to the late Chief Rukoro’s house and back to Komando hall.
Relevant government authorities are still being consulted before a decision will be made where and when Rukoro will be buried.
Normally, when an Omuherero Chief dies, mourners usually gather in large number in the days leading up the burial.
However, due to Covid-19 regulations, mourners have been forced to find more creative and appropriate ways to pay tribute to their leaders.
