SPECIAL equipment designed was donated to Connect-Africa by the Namibian Ports Authority to assist people living with hearing and visual difficulties.
The Namport Social Investment Fund (NSIF) sponsored the Information Technology equipment valued at N$106 000.
Timoteus Nangombe, who is the Project Coordinator, explained that the project is aimed at allowing those who are visually and hearing-impaired to access information and communication technology at the click of a button.
“Through Namport’s assistance, our project will create hope. We highly appreciate Namport for being a patriotic partner,” Nangombe said.
The equipment donated will be utilized in Connect-Africa’s pilot phase of the technological rollout that will enable people living with challenges in Khomas, Oshana, and Kavango regions, to interact with others through the application.
He said that when the pilot phase of the rollout is completed, the project aims to employ persons with visual and hearing impairment to make up 60% of its workforce.
