See-through top causes a storm in a D-cup

Staff Reporter

RESIDENTS of coastal towns in Namibia tend to dress much lighter when the weather gets warmer but wearing a see-through top is apparently still frowned upon by some people.

A floor manager at a well-known grocery shop in Walvis Bay caused a storm in a D-cup when he asked a young woman to leave the premises because of her choice of clothing.

The lady in question took offence and soon afterward rallied an activist group behind her to help her fight for her right to shop in a see-through top.

The activists under the leadership of the former Walvis Bay Constituency Councillor, Knowledge Ipinge, jumped at the opportunity and described the manager’s actions as unfair discrimination because he denied the wearer of the see-through blouse the right to pay for the goods she wanted to buy by body shaming and blaming her for promoting sexual harassment.

The activists turned to social media to make their intentions of writing formal letters to the owner of the franchise and the company’s head office clear.

The activists said the owner should take full responsibility for the trauma the young lady had to endure.

The owners of the shop in Walvis Bay reached out to the activists soon afterward and undertook to deliberate on the matter.

The owner has since taken full responsibility for the floor manager’s actions.

The shop’s owner agreed to engage the young lady to find a way forward after proposing a viable solution and formally apologised for the trauma she experienced.
