OSHANA Councillor Gerson Kapenda, who was arrested after he allegedly ran over a pedestrian before fleeing the scene, was granted N$10 000 bail when he briefly appeared in the Oshakati Magistrate’s court this morning.
Kapenda, a Councillor at Okaku, has since been charged with Culpable Homicide.
He allegedly ran over musician Gabriel Emvula, well known as ‘Mandala GeEpafu’ on Tuesday evening.
Emvula was 31-years-old at the time of his death.
The fatal crash reportedly happened at Oshikuku around 21h00 and Kapenda was reportedly driving his government vehicle.
The state did not object to the granting of bail.
Kapenda will return to court again on 5 July 2021 for further investigations.
Kapenda was granted bail on condition that he does not interfere with investigations.
Magistrate Toini Shilongo presided over the matter, while Prosecutor Samingu Kasawana represented the state.
Kapenda is represented by a private lawyer.
