THE 51-year-old British Billionaire, Harvey Boulter, who allegedly shot his employee in February, did not appear in the Kamanjab Magistrate’s Court for his scheduled second appearance.
Boulter is accused of fatally shooting one of his employees, Gerhard van Wyk, 54, on a farm he owns around Kamanjab.
Van Wyk reportedly died on his way to the Outjo hospital.
According to Kunene Regional Crime Coordinator Commissioner Rudolf Kanyetu, Boulter was admitted in the Outjo hospital for injuries sustained during the scuffle, before he was transferred to a Private Hospital in Windhoek.
Kanyetu said the suspect was struck with a bullet on his hand.
“I am not aware that he didn’t appear in court but I can confirm that he is guarded by police officers at the hospital in Windhoek. He was admitted in hospital the same day the incident happened. I’m assuming his lawyers and the state Prosecutor agreed to postpone the matter in the suspect’s absence. It happens. We also want him in police custody but we have to adhere to his doctor’s orders. Even though he is an accused person, he has democratic rights,” Kanyetu explained.
Presiding Magistrate Immanuel Udjombala has remanded the matter to Monday morning for the defense lawyers to explain why the accused person wasn’t before court, as well as the Investigating officer to explain how Boulter was transferred to Windhoek without an order from court.
