A 60-year-old woman from Okahao became victim to an elaborate scheme by thieves who stole N$107 457 from her.
It is alleged that on Friday, 16 April 2021, at around 08:30 at Oshilulu village in Okahao constituency, that three suspects went to the homestead of the victim and pretended to be officials from the Namibian Police wearing masks with a police logo and further informed the victim to sign certain documents for her to surrender her ID card, cellphone, bank card and money in cash to them.
They further went to withdraw money from the account without the victim’s consent. A total of N$107 457 was stolen in the process. No arrest or recovery is made yet. Police investigations continue.
In another case of extortion and impersonation of a Police Officer, a 36-year-old Namibian man was arrested after he allegedly pretended to be a police officer and extorted a total of N$6 520 from Angolan nationals selling recharge vouchers.
It is alleged that between March 2021 and 16 April 2021 in Kuisebmond and Walvis Bay town areas, the suspect allegedly pretended to be a Police Officer and threatened the Angolan nationals who sell recharge vouchers in and around town with deportation and demanded cash and/or recharge.
No recovery of the stolen N$6 520 -00 is made yet. Police investigations continue.
