The Namibian Presidency has been requested to order an urgent forensic audit of the books of the Ministry of Defence and Veterans’ Affairs, the Namibian Defence Force, as well as that of August26 Holdings.

Rear Admiral Peter Vilho, in his letter of resignation, urged the Office of the President to urgently investigate and act upon certain matters that he has brought to the attention of President Hage Geingob and Vice President Nangolo Mbumba during their consultation at State House on Tuesday.

Vilho’s resignation follows revelations about an undeclared bank account in his name with HSBC in Hong Kong that might be linked to illicit deeds.

“Following our consultations, I have considered my position as Minister of Defence and Veterans’ Affairs and concluded that my continued membership of the executive is untenable and not in the best interest of our government,” Vilho wrote in his letter of resignation.

Vilho pointed out that during the consultation with both the President and the Vice President, that he has drawn their attention to a number of issues that require urgent investigation and action on their part.

“I therefore hereby humbly request your good office that a forensic audit should be carried out on the allegations pertaining to the MODVA/NDF/ August 26 Holdings for the purposes of clearing of my name,” he said.

Vilho also thanked President Geingob for the honour and opportunity that he bestowed upon him to serve his country.
